First-year students are not admitted directly to the Aerospace Engineering Department, but to the University of Michigan and the College of Engineering.  Students declare a major, typically in their second or third semester at Michigan.  Students declaring Aerospace Engineering as their major are assigned a faculty advisor in the Department.
