Why Michigan? Why Aerospace?
We invite you to join the undergraduate program in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. Michigan offers an internationally recognized undergraduate aerospace engineering program. We have the largest aerospace engineering alumni base in the USA and most probably in the world! Being part of the Michigan Aerospace Engineering family opens a wide range of professional opportunities for our graduates. We are consistently ranked as one of the top Aerospace Engineering programs in the nation and attract some of the brightest students both nationally and internationally. Because the department is part of a large research university, it offers many interdisciplinary research opportunities
for our undergraduates. The Department's clear vision, and unusual breadth and depth of the undergraduate program are important features of our commitment to undergraduate education.
As a student, you will find that our department is a friendly place, with a diverse and enthusiastic group of students, faculty and staff who call the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) building, and its modern laboratories and computational facilities their 'home'. Students team together to work on a broad array of aerospace and other engineering projects.
Famous sons of Michigan, such as Kelly Johnson, the Lockheed 'Skunk Works' designer of many innovative aircraft including the SR-71, are world renowned for their great contributions to engineering. Seven astronauts were educated in our department and many alumni return each year to speak with students and faculty.
I hope that you will join us to share in the mission and goals of our Department.
